MegaCurtis, more Mega

Version 1.2 of MegaCurtis just dropped at the App Store. The previous update gave us iPhone 3GS (and iPad) compatibility as well as a vocoder-like live granulation mode. Now MegaCurtis adds new visuals and an improved control interface. A single touch will control granulation position and filter cutoff, while a second touch lets you drag position modulation rate and depth settings. This setup is far more expressive than that of the previous version, but do drop a note below if you’d like to see a different control scheme.

Strange?

Is there a megacurtis tutorial anywhere? Seems intuitive enough but i’m having the hardest time rec’ing and getting the sample to play on the keys.

App looks awesome – can’t wait to master it !

    Thx !

No tutorial yet, sorry. The REC button on the main screen records your performance. The SRC button will take you to another screen where you can record (or load or paste) other sounds to manipulate.

thx a bunch for the quick reply!

following yr instructions i can get the sample in there, but still don’t understand how to get it on the keys, or even see it as a waveform to edit, etc. i tried saving it then loading it.

        THX

weird, left a reply yesterday but now it’s gone.

    thx for your quick reply!

by studying the 1min vid i figured out that waveform view is accessed in settings, outside the app.

still not getting sample to be manipulated and played by keys. also feeling like i’m not seeing a lot of the screenshots that appear in that vid (e.g. key / scale).

feel like i’m missing something crucial. don’t understand what the “thru” button does either.

    thx!

As noted in the description and title, the demo video is of version 1.3, which is coming soon. It’s in the Apple queue, so I’d expect it to come out next week. This is when the scales and other goodies come.

Regarding the sound not showing up, I did catch a bug that in rare instances caused the synth to lose its connection to recorded sounds. It’s been fixed in 1.3, and I’m not sure if it shows up in 1.2. Can you quit the app completely (delete it from the wiggly app chooser) and start it again? This may solve the problem. Sorry to get all Windows on you.

Through mode works best with headphones or if you’re inputting an instrument through an iRig or equivalent and outputting to headphones or speakers. The app disables the iPhone speaker in through mode to avoid feedback, so the app becomes very quiet. (Maybe that could be optional.)

Really appreciate all of the replies.

        Gotcha re 1.3 updates.

Un-then-reinstalled and still have the same problem. I can rec over on the SRC screen but can’t get it to load to play w it.

Upon reinstallation, it reverted back to the included sample (noise + “welcome to megacurtis”) but that won’t load either.

What step am i supposed to take after rec a sample to get it on the keys?

        THX AGAIN

Maybe I’m not understanding “on the keys”. Have you played around with the octave settings? Hit the button above the keyboard and press “DWN” a few times. Lower octaves use larger grains, so you’ll hear more of the sample sound.

maybe you all could throw up a quick video walking through a demo of features? nothing flashy. just a thought to help us early adopters?

    Thx

Hi…absolutely LOVE the app! This may be a general iphone newbie dumb question. When I record a file, hit ‘xfer’ and ‘save’….where does the file go? How can I retrieve it?

    Many thanks :)

    Typical: just sussed it!
